Nakamura Tomijûrô was an amazing eighteenth-century onnagata actor who found fame in both Edo.

One of his forte were the roles of women belonging to the samurai class (onna budôgoto), proud of their chivalrous spirit and involved in complicated revenge plots. "He was loved in all types of female roles - from proper young ladies to courtesans to samurai wives to amazons" (Samuel Leiter, "New Kabuki Encyclopedia").
