March 1694: the Edo star Ichikawa Danjûrô I plays at the Minamigawa no Shibai the role of the wicked priest Narukami in the drama "Narukami Yûjoron". His stage partner in the role of Princess Taema is Mizuki Tatsunosuke I. They also play together the roles of Seigen and Princess Sakura in another drama. May 1739: first Kabuki adaptation of the puppet theater drama "Hirakana Seisuiki", which is produced by Mizuki Tatsunosuke II for the nadai Hoteiya Umenojô at the Minamigawa no Shibai with the following casting:
January 1745: Chikamatsu Monzaemon's drama "Keisei Hangonkô" is produced for the first time in Kyôto, at the Minamigawa no Shibai, with the following casting:
January 1753: first Kabuki adaptation of the 5 acts puppet theater drama "Yamatogana Ariwara Keizu", which is produced as a new year drama at the Minamigawa no Shibai by Yamashita Matatarô I with the following casting:
February 1755: first Kabuki adaptation of the 5 acts puppet theater drama "Ono no Tôfû Aoyagi Suzuri", which is produced as a kaomise program at the Minamigawa no Shibai by Sawamura Kunitarô I with the following casting:
January 1758: first Kabuki adaptation of the puppet theater drama "Gion Sairei Shinkôki", which was originally written by Asada Icchô, Nakamura Akei and Toyotake Ôritsu in December 1757. It is simultaneously staged at the Minamigawa no Shibai and the Kitagawa no Shibai [casting]. The play is produced by Sawamura Kunitarô I and Somematsu Matsujirô at the Minamigawa no Shibai with the following casting:
November 1759: the drama "Yoshitsune Sembon Zakura" is produced for the first time at the Minamigawa no Shibai, starring Arashi Sangorô II in the roles of Yoshitsune and Tadanobu. January 1778: premiere of Namiki Gohei's drama "Keisei Hakataori" at the Minamigawa no Shibai; it is produced by Mimasu Jirôkichi and staged with the following casting:
November 1797: great shûmei at the Minamigawa no Shibai for the Kyôya guild; Kyôya Shichihei takes the name of Arashi Raishi I and appears on stage for the last time, for his isse ichidai performance; he achieves a great success by playing 3 roles in the drama "Namboku Yuki no Miyako". His son Arashi Matsunosuke takes the name of Arashi Sangorô III. December 1821: the Edo star Iwai Hanshirô V achieves a great success at the Minamigawa no Shibai by playing the seven roles of Tsuruya Namboku IV's drama "Osome Hisamatsu Ukina no Yomiuri" and the role of Ohatsu in the drama "Kagamiyama". February 1823: great shûmei at the Minamigawa no Shibai for the Kyôya guild; Arashi Sangorô III and his son Arashi Umatarô I respectively take the names of Arashi Raishi II and Arashi Sangorô IV. May 1894: revival at the Minamiza of "Unagidani" by the troupe led by Kataoka Gatô III. December 1906: premiere at the Minamiza of Takayasu Gekkô's drama "Sakura Shigure", which is staged with the following casting:
January 1910: Chikamatsu Monzaemon's drama "Onna Goroshi Abura no Jigoku" is staged for the first time in Kyôto, at the Minamiza with the following casting:
December 1985: Ichikawa Danjûrô XII celebrates his shûmei at the Minamiza in Kyôto, playing the roles of Benkei and Sukeroku in the dramas "Kanjinchô" and "Sukeroku Yukari no Edo Zakura". November 1991: Nakamura Ganjirô III celebrates his first month of shûmei in Kyôto at the Minamiza, playing the roles of Kamiya Jihei and Fujiya Izaemon in Chikamatsu Monzaemon's masterpiece "Shinjû Ten no Amijima" (the "Kawashô" scene) and the drama "Kuruwa Bunshô" (the "Yoshidaya" scene). December 1991: Nakamura Ganjirô III celebrates his second month of shûmei at the Minamiza, playing the roles of Kameya Chûbei and the snake disguised as the dancing girl Hanako in Chikamatsu Monzaemon's masterpiece "Koi Bikyaku Yamato Ôrai" (the "Fûin Giri" scene) and the dance "Musume Dôjôji". December 1998: Kataoka Nizaemon XV celebrates his shûmei in Kyôto at the Minamiza, playing the roles of Fujiya Izaemon and Kumagai Jirô Naozane in the dramas "Kuruwa Bunshô" and "Kumagai Jin'ya". December 2001: Bandô Mitsugorô X celebrates his shûmei in Kyôto at the Minamiza, playing the roles of Ôtomo no Kuronushi and Sukeroku in the dramas "Tsumoru Koi Yuki no Seki no To" and "Sukeroku Sakura no Futae Obi". May 2002: Nakamura Kaishun II celebrates his shûmei in Kyôto at the Minamiza, playing the roles of Princess Yaegaki and Princess Yuki in the dramas "Honchô Nijûshikô" (the "Jusshukô" scene) and "Kinkakuji". December 2002: Onoe Shôroku IV celebrates his shûmei in Kyôto at the Minamiza, playing the roles of Umeômaru and the wicked moutain priest Narukami in the dramas "Kurumabiki" and "Narukami". |
