January 1784: he becomes tachiyaku and takes the name of Anegawa Shinshirô III at the Minamigawa no Shibai, playing the roles of Dankurô, Katsuragi Minbu and Goheiji in the drama "Shin Usuyuki Monogatari"; his stage partners are Shibazaki Rinzaemon II (Sonobe Hyôe), Hanagiri Tomimatsu I (Magaki, Goheiji's wife), Asao Kunigorô II (Akizuki Daizen, Tsukimitsu Kyûzô, Gorobei Masamune), Arashi Sanjûrô II (Saisaki Iga-no-Kami, the yakko Tsumahei), Ichinoya Gonjûrô (Kuniyuki), Ogawa Kichitarô II (Saemon) and Nakayama Tsuruzô (Princess Usuyuki). November 1784: Shinshirô plays in Kyôto at the Nishi no Shibai the roles of Akaboshi Tarô and Momoyama Tarôbei in the kaomise drama "Kuni no Hana Ôshimadai". Then, he goes to Ôsaka to perform at the Naka no Shibai in the kaomise program "Naka ni Môkeru Otogo Kaomise", which is produced by Nakamura Kumetarô II and welcomes the Edo stars Matsumoto Kôshirô IV and Iwai Hanshirô IV. January 1785: Shinshirô's rank in both the Kyôto and the Ôsaka hyôbanki, tachiyaku section, is jô-jô-(hanshiro)kichi (superior - superior - almost excellent). January 1796: Shinshirô's rank in the Ôsaka hyôbanki, tachiyaku section, is jô-jô-kichi (superior - superior - excellent). He is the kanjiku for tachiyaku actors. January 1798: Shinshirô's name and rank appear for the last time in a Kabuki hyôbanki. He retires from the Kabuki world around that time. 26 February 1805: Shinshirô dies in Ôsaka. His tombstone is located in the precincts of the Saikôji Temple in the district of Matsuzaki. Comments: Anegawa Shinshirô III was a popular Kamigata actor, who was able to play a wide range of male or female roles. He was more at ease in sewamono than in jidaimono.
