Career:

November 1967: he makes his first appearance on stage at the Kabukiza and receives the name of Nakamura Tomotarô.

August 1980: revival at the National Theatre of Namiki Shôzô I's drama "Yadonashi Danshichi Shigure no Karakasa"; Tomotarô plays the role of the actor Sawamura Kunitarô [casting].

May ~ July 1988: tour in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

March 1991: revival at the National Theatre of Namiki Gohei I's play "Sode Nikki Banshû Meguri"; Tomotarô plays the role of Yumiya Tarô (in reality Tajimi Juntarô) [more details].

January 1995: Nakamura Tomotarô and his younger brother Nakamura Hirotarô respectively take the name of Nakamura Kanjaku V and Nakamura Senjaku III at the Nakaza; the new Kanjaku plays the roles of Kameya Chûbê and the spirit of the lion in the drama "Fûin Giri" and the dance "Kagami Jishi".

April 1995: Nakamura Kanjaku V and Nakamura Senjaku III celebrate their shûmei in Tôkyô at the Kabukiza; the new Kanjaku plays the roles of Motome and the shirabyôshi Hanako in the classic "Imoseyama Onna Teikin" and the dance-drama "Ninin Dôjôji".

October 1995: Nakamura Kanjaku V and Nakamura Senjaku III celebrate their shûmei in Nagoya at the Misonoza; the new Kanjaku plays the roles of Kameya Chûbê and Minamoto no Raikô in the dramas "Fûin Giri" and "Komochi Yamanba".

November 1995: Nakamura Kanjaku V and Nakamura Senjaku III celebrate their shûmei in Kyôto at the Minamiza; the new Kanjaku plays the roles of Naoe Yamashiro-no-Kami Sanetsuna and Shinanoya Ohan (and the decchi Chôkichi) in the dramas "Terutora Haizen" and "Obiya".

September 1999: revival at the Minamiza of Katsu Genzô III's drama "Ogasawara Sôdô"; Kanjaku plays the roles of the yakko Kikuhei (in reality the fox of Mt. Myôjin) and Ogasawara Haito [casting].

June 2000: revival at the Kabukiza of the spectacular hengemono "Ôtsue Dôjôji"; Kanjaku plays the role of Ya-no-Ne no Gorô [more details].

May ~ June 2001: Chikamatsuza tour and several Kabuki seminars in England. Kanjaku, his father Ganjirô and his brother Senjaku play in the dance-drama "Tsuri Onna" and Chikamatsu Monzaemon's masterpiece "Sonezaki Shinjû" [more details].

June 2003: two-week Chikamatsuza tour in Moscow and St. Petersburg (Russia); Chikamatsu Monzaemon's masterpiece "Sonezaki Shinjû" is performed with Kanjaku and his father Nakamura Ganjirô in the roles of Hiranoya Tokubê and Tenmaya Ohatsu.
