Career:

Before 1728: born in Kamigata. Son of Tamiya Shirogorô, he receives the name of Tamiya Hannosuke and performs in Kyôto as a koyaku.

November 1728: Hannosuke becomes zamoto and produces at Kameya Kumenojô's theater (Kyôto) the kaomise drama "Tokiwagura Kogane no Ishizue".

1732 ~ 1733: Hannosuke works as a zamoto in Nagoya.

November 1735: he becomes wakashugata and takes the name of Tamiya Jûzaburô I in Ôsaka, performing in Sadoshima Saburôzaemon's kaomise drama "Ôyamato Kane no Kinzan", which is produced at the Kado no Shibai by Nakayama Shinkurô I.

Fall 1738: Jûzaburô goes back to Kyôto with his father.

November 1738: Jûzaburô becomes tachiyaku and plays the role of the rônin Ikuta Jûzô in the kaomise drama "Neko no Koneko", which is produced at Hoteiya Umenojô's theater (Minamigawa no Shibai) by Mizuki Tatsunosuke II.

January 1739: Jûzaburô's rank in the Kyôto hyôbanki, tachiyaku section, is jô-jô-(shiro)hankichi (superior - superior - (white) half excellent). He shares the same rank as Bandô Sukesaburô.

November 1739: Jûzaburô plays at Ebisuya Kichirôbei's theater the role of Toneyama Jônosuke in the kaomise drama "Senzai Yakata Kogane no Shikigawara", which is produced by Arashi Koroku I.

January 1740: Jûzaburô's rank in the Kyôto hyôbanki, tachiyaku section, is between jô-jô-(shiro)kichi (superior - superior - (white) excellent) and jô-jô-(hanshiro)kichi [visual]. He shares the same rank as Haruyama Genshichi II.

November 1742: Jûzaburô plays at the Minamigawa no Shibai the role of Matahei in the kaomise drama "Kaeribana Konrei Nagoya". He also changes the writing of his first name:

Fall 1743: Jûzaburô goes to Edo.

November 1743: Jûzaburô plays at the Ichimuraza the role of Yoshisada in the kaomise program "Ishizue Taiheiki".

January 1744: Jûzaburô's rank in the Edo hyôbanki, tachiyaku section, is jô-jô-(hanshiro)kichi (superior - superior - almost excellent). He shares the same rank with Ôtani Oniji I, Sakata Tôjûrô III and Tomizawa Tatsujûrô.

February 1745: Jûzaburô goes back to Kyôto to play at Miyako Mandayû's theater the role of Ôuchi Iyonosuke in the new year drama "Keisei Sakura Gassen". This is the last time he shares the same stage with his father Tamiya Shirogorô, who dies this year.

November 1746: Jûzaburô appears on stage for the last time, playing in the kaomise drama "Tomi Yakata Ômu Kotoba", which is produced at Hoteiya Umenojô's theater by Nakamura Kumetarô I; his stage partners are Sawamura Sôjûrô I, Anegawa Shinshirô I, Sanogawa Jûkichi (final performance before his death), Nakamura Utaemon I, Nakamura Shingorô I (final performance before his death), Nakamura Tomijûrô I and Nakamura Kiyosaburô I.

Spring 1747: Jûzaburô dies in Kyôto.

Tamiya Jûzaburô I was a Kamigata tachiyaku actor, who made most of his career in Kyôto and Ôsaka during the first half of the 18th century. His three fields of excellence were budôgoto, yatsushigoto and jitsugoto.
