History

February 1997: Opening ceremony of the Shôchikuza, in the heart of the city of Ôsaka. This modern theater was built to replace the Nakaza.

April 1998: Kataoka Nizaemon XV celebrated his shûmei in Ôsaka at the Shôchikuza, playing the roles of Matsuômaru in "Terakoya" and Kameya Chûbê in the "Fûin Giri" act of the play "Koi Bikyaku Yamato Ôrai".

May 1998: Kataoka Nizaemon XV celebrated his second month of shûmei at the Shôchikuza, playing the roles of Fukuoka Mitsugi and Sukeroku in the plays "Ise Ondo Koi no Netaba" and "Sukeroku Kuruwa no Hatsuzakura".

April 2001: Bandô Mitsugorô X celebrated his shûmei in Ôsaka at the Shôchikuza, playing the role of Matsuômaru in the "Terakoya" scene of the classic "Sugawara Denju Tenarai Kagami" and all the main roles of the series of dances gathered under the title "Rokkasen Sugata no Irodori" (Sôjô Henjô, Ariwara no Narihira, Bun'ya, Kisen and Ôtomo no Kuronushi).

July 2002: Onoe Shôroku IV celebrated his shûmei in Ôsaka at the Shôchikuza, playing the roles of Ranpei in "Ranpei Monogurui" and the fox Tadanobu in the dance "Yoshinoyama".

January 2003: Nakamura Kaishun II celebrated his shûmei in Ôsaka at the Shôchikuza, playing the roles of the courtesan Yûgiri and the snake demon disguised as the dancer Hanako in the play "Ninin Yûgiri" and the great dance "Kyôganoko Musume Dôjôji".

July 2004: Ichikawa Ebizô XI celebrated his shûmei in Ôsaka at the Shôchikuza, playing the roles of Yosaburô and the warrior monk Musashibô Benkei in the drama "Yowa Nasake Ukina no Yokogushi" and the dance "Kanjinchô".

July 2005: Nakamura Kanzaburô XVIII celebrated his shûmei in Ôsaka at the Shôchikuza, playing the roles of the Wisteria Maiden, Heisaku, Ôe Hiromoto and Moriyama Tatsuji in the dramas "Fuji Musume", "Numazu", "Miyajima no Danmari" and "Noda-ban Togitatsu no Utare".

July 2006: Sakata Tôjûrô IV celebrated his shûmei in Ôsaka at the Shôchikuza, playing the roles of Danshichi Kurobê and the shirabyôshi Hanako in the drama "Natsu Matsuri" and the dance "Musume Dôjôji".

July 2012: Nakamura Matagorô III and his son Nakamura Kashô IV celebrated their shûmei in Ôsaka at the Shôchikuza [more details].

September 2012: Nakamura Kankurô VI celebrated his shûmei in Ôsaka at the Shôchikuza, playing the roles of Ofuku, Banba no Chûtarô, a friendly stage attendant and six roles in "Dango Uri", "Mabuta no Haha", "Onna Shibaraku" and "Amagoi Gitsune" [more details].

January 2013: Ichikawa En'ô II, Ichikawa Ennosuke IV and Ichikawa Chûsha IX celebrated their shûmei in Ôsaka at the Shôchikuza [more details].

January 2015: Nakamura Kanjaku V took the name of Nakamura Ganjirô IV in Ôsaka at the Shôchikuza [more details].

February 2015: Nakamura Ganjirô IV celebrated his second month of shûmei in Ôsaka at the Shôchikuza [more details].

July 2016: Nakamura Jakuemon V celebrated his shûmei in Ôsaka at the Shôchikuza [more details].

January 2017: Nakamura Shikan VIII, Nakamura Hashinosuke IV, Nakamura Fukunosuke III and Nakamura Utanosuke IV celebrated their shûmei in Ôsaka at the Shôchikuza. This is also the 20th anniversary of the Shôchikuza which is celebrated [more details].

July 2018: Matsumoto Hakuô II and Matsumoto Kôshirô X celebrated their shûmei in Ôsaka at the Shôchikuza [more details].
