September 1783: the play "Igagoe Dôchû Sugoroku" is adapted to Kabuki for the first time, in Ôsaka at the Naka no Shibai; Sampachi plays the roles of Nomorinosuke, Ishidome Busuke and Ja-no-Me no Gampachi [casting]. May 1784: the play "Katsuragawa Renri no Shigarami", which was originally written in October 1776 by Suga Sensuke for the puppet theater, is adapted to Kabuki for the first time by Namiki Gohei, and staged in Ôsaka at the Naka no Shibai; Sampachi plays the role of the decchi Chôkichi [casting]. Fall 1788: Sampachi goes to Kyôto. November 1788: Sampachi plays at Kameya Kumenojô's theater the role of Nagata Tarô in the kaomise drama "Tokiwa Ichô Genji no Kaomise". January 1789: Sampachi's rank in the Kyôto hyôbanki, katakiyaku section, is jô-jô-(shiro)kichi (superior - superior - (white) excellent). Fall 1791: Sampachi goes to Ôsaka. November 1791: Sampachi plays at the Kado no Shibai the roles of Dôtetsu and Sumiya Omaru in the kaomise drama "Keisei Shinobazu-ga-Ike". March 1795: Chikamatsu Monzaemon I's drama "Komochi Yamamba", which was originally written for the puppet theater, is adapted to Kabuki for the first time, in Ôsaka at the Kado no Shibai; Sampachi plays the role of Kumatake [casting]. Fall 1795: Sampachi goes to Kyôto. November 1795: Arashi Sampachi I takes the name of Arashi Mitsuemon I at the Minamigawa no Shibai, playing the Kunihei in the kaomise drama "Hajimete Hiraku Nanshi no Hanabusa". August 1796: Mitsuemon plays in the same theater the roles of Mareyo, Sukune Tarô, Fujiwara no Shihei and Shundô Gemba in the drama "Sugawara Denju Tenarai Kagami". Fall 1797: Mitsuemon goes to Edo. November 1797: Arashi Mitsuemon I takes back the name of Arashi Sampachi I, playing at the Kiriza the roles of Asahara Hachirô and Gentôta in the kaomise drama "Yuki Onna Keizu no Hachinoki". January 1798: premiere at the Kiriza of Namiki Gohei I's play "Tomioka Koi no Yamabiraki", commonly called "Ninin Shimbei", in which Sampachi plays the roles of Ukai Kujûrô and Tamaya Shin'emon [casting]. August 1798: Sampachi plays in the same theater the role of Akizuki Daizen in the drama "Shin Usuyuki Monogatari". Fall 1798: the Ichimuraza reopens, getting back its license from the Kiriza. November 1798: Sampachi plays at the Ichimuraza three roles in the kaomise drama "Hanayagura Tachibana Keizu". September 1799: Sampachi plays in the same theater the roles of Kawagoe Tarô and Sagami Gorô in the drama "Yoshitsune Sembon Zakura". August 1800: Sampachi plays in the same theater the roles of Kô no Moronô and Ono no Kudayû in the drama "Kanadehon Chûshingura". September 1800: Sampachi plays in the same theater the roles of Mareyo and Sukune Tarô in the drama "Sugawara Denju Tenarai Kagami". November 1800: Sampachi moves to the reopening Kawarazakiza and plays in the kaomise drama "Modoribashi Tsuna-ga-Kaomise". July 1801: Sampachi plays in the same theater the roles of Emiji and Fukashichi in the drama "Imoseyama Onna Teikin". September 1801: Sampachi plays in the same theater the role Teraoka Heiemon in the drama "Kanadehon Chûshingura". November 1801: Sampachi moves to the Ichimuraza and plays in the kaomise drama "Otoko Narikeri Onna Masakado". May 1802: Sampachi plays in the same theater the roles of Heiemon, Gihei and Kinai in the drama "Taiheiki Chûshin Kôshaku". November 1802: Sampachi moves to the Nakamuraza and plays in the kaomise drama "Koshiji no Hana Oedo no Torideki". November 1803: Sampachi plays at the Nakamuraza in the kaomise drama "Kareki ni Hana Gorishô Hachinoki". February 1804: Sampachi plays in the same theater the roles of Ukai Kujûrô and Tamaya Shin'emon in the drama "Ninin Shimbei". March 1804: Sampachi goes to Kyôto and plays at the Kitagawa no Shibai the roles of Kô no Moronô and Ono no Kudayû in the drama "Kanadehon Chûshingura". He also plays the role of Junkikan in the drama "Kinmon Gosan no Kiri". November 1804: Sampachi plays at the Kitagawa no Shibai the role of the yakko Tsunehei in the kaomise drama "Ichiyô Ôgi no Kachidoki". April 1805: Sampachi goes back to Edo to perform at the Nakamuraza. Fall 1811: Sampachi goes to Kyôto. November 1811: Sampachi appears on stage for the last time, at the Minamigawa no Shibai, playing the role of Ôe no Nyûdô in the drama "Ômi Genji Senjin Yakata". Comments: Arashi Sampachi I was a popular katakiyaku and jitsuaku actor, who was trained in Kamigata but also made a fame for himself in Edo in the middle of the 1790s and the beginning of the 19th century.
