Sawamura Daizô

Born the 10th of October 1938 in Tôkyô. He started his career in Kamigata. His first stage name was Iwai Daizaburô. He was recorded for the first time in March 1948, when he performed minor roles at the Nakaza in the dramas "Soga no Taimen", "Banchô Sarayashiki", "Fûin Giri" and "Benten Kozô". He became a disciple of Sawamura Tanosuke VI in 1972 and he received the name of Sawamura Daizô. He was recorded for the first time with his new stage name in November 1972, when he played at the Kabukiza the role of Kanakubo Yukichika in the drama "Shuzenji Monogatari". He became nadai and celebrated it in January 2000 at the Shinbashi Enbujô, where he played the role of the yakko Narahei in the drama "Sukeroku". He appeared on stage for the last time in June 2017 at the National Theatre, where he performed in the drama "Meigetsu Hachiman Matsuri". He died the 17th of September 2019.

Dates of birth and death unknown. He started his career in Edo as a wakashugata. His first stage name was Hanai Yatarô. His second stage name was Onoe Yatarô. From 1692, he was recorded as a wakashugata performing at the Moritaza. He went to Ôsaka in 1700. He joined a travelling troupe (tabi shibai) and was not recorded in ôshibai for several years. He settled in Kyôto where he became tachiyaku and took the name of Takezawa Magoheiji in the 1st lunar month of 1710. He went back to Edo in Fall 1711 with Sakakiyama Sukegorô and Osagawa Tatsuya. He took in the 11th lunar month of 1711 the name of Sawamura Jûrôzaemon and played at the Moritaza the role of Harada Anzaemon in the kaomise drama "Kôbai no Momoyoguruma". He played in the 11th lunar month of 1716 the role of Wada Saemon Tamemune at the Ichimuraza in the kaomise drama "Yoroi Kurabe Ôshû Gane". No stage record afterwards. His rank in the 1717 Edo hyôbanki, tachiyaku section, was jô-(shiro)jô (superior - (white) superior) [visual].

Dates of birth and death unknown. Son of Sawamura Sôjûrô I, he made his debut on stage in the 11th lunar month of 1726 at the Nakamuraza, where he performed as a koyaku in the kaomise drama "Kaomise Jûnidan". He became wakashugata in 11th lunar month of 1731 at the Nakamuraza, where he performed in the kaomise drama "Wagô Ichiji Taiheiki". He performed in the 11th lunar month of 1732 at the Nakamuraza in the kaomise drama "Yamato Kotoba Imagawajô", which welcomed in Edo the Kamigata actors Anegawa Shinshirô I, Sakakiyama Koshirô I and Arashi Otohachi I (who celebrated his shûmei). No record afterwards. He stopped acting and retired from the Kabuki world.

Sawamura Kasen

Born the 11th of March 1913 in Tôkyô. He started his career in July 1920 at the Kabukiza, where he played the role of a koshô in the drama "Ii Tairô no Shi". Disciple of Ichikawa Ennosuke II, he received the name of Ichikawa Noshimaru. He took the name of Ichikawa Noshiya in 1930. He took the name of Ichikawa Joen in January 1937 at the Tôkyô Gekijô, where he played the role of a jijo in the dance-drama "Yumiya Tarô". He spent a few years with the troupe led by Ichikawa Monzaburô III or the Katabamiza. He became a disciple of Sawamura Sôjûrô VIII in 1964 and he received the name of Sawamura Kasen [3]. He played in June 1964 at the Kabukiza the role of nagaya nyôbô Oen in the drama "Hachidaime Ichikawa Danjûrô". He appeared on stage for the last time in May 1992, in Tôkyô at the Kabukiza, where he played the role of the yarite Otetsu in the drama "Sukeroku". He died the 12th of February 1997.

Sawamura Shônosuke

Born the 2nd of April 1921 in Asakusa. Grandson of Sawamura Tosshi VIII, son of Sawamura Sônosuke I and younger brother of Sawamura Sônosuke II, he started his career in February 1927 at the Imperial Theater. He joined the Tôei Company in 1933 and became a movie/TV actor. His movie name was Itô Jushô. He went back to the stage world in 1965. Then, he joined the Onoe Kikugorô Gekidan troupe in February 1974 at the Kabukiza, where he played the roles of Atsugi Daigo, Kadokiya Shinzaburô and the Shinra fukushi in "Wakaki Hi no Nobunaga", "Tanuki" and "Tôdaiki". He appeared on stage for the last time in July 1988, in Tôkyô at the National Theatre, where he played the role of the karô Hata no Minbu in "Kenuki". He died the 15th of November 1988.
