Eldest son of Iwai Hanshir˘ I, he started his career as an actor in the 11th lunar month of 1696, performing under the name of Iwai Kamematsu I in either wakashugata or wakaonnagata roles. His father died in the 3rd lunar month of 1699 and he had to replace him as a zamoto, producing in ďsaka Tsuuchi Jihŕ I's drama "Keisei Hachij˘ Shima". In the 4th lunar month of 1699 he took the name of Iwai Hanshir˘ II [1]. He produced in ďsaka the drama "Aioi no Ume" in Spring 1710 and most likely died the same year.

Born the 3rd of May 1951 in T˘ky˘. Eldest daughter of Iwai Hanshir˘ X, she was also adopted in 1964 [2] in the family of late Iwai Hanshir˘ IX. She became the s˘ke of the Iwai School of Buy˘ in 1981. She was not only a dance master but she also worked as an actress, either for the movies or the TV dramas. She took the name of Iwai Hanshir˘ XI the 28th of November 2021 at the National Theatre.
