Eldest son of Iwai Hanshirô I, he started his career as an actor in November 1696, performing
under the name of Iwai Kamematsu I either wakashugata or wakaonnagata roles. His father died in March 1699 and he had to replace him as a zamoto, producing
in Ôsaka Tsuuchi Jihei I's drama "Keisei Hachijô Shima". In April 1699 he took the name of Iwai Hanshirô II and his brother
Iwai Toramatsu became Iwai Kamematsu II. He produced in Ôsaka the drama "Aioi no Ume" in Spring 1710 and most likely died the same year.
