Career:

1780 ~ 1800: he starts his career as a disciple of Onoe Shinshichi I, who gives him the name of Onoe Tokumatsu I. He spend most of his early years performing in hama shibai.

November 1800: Onoe Tokumatsu I takes the name of Onoe Shinshichi II in Kyôto at the Kitagawa no Shibai.

9 March 1809: his master Onoe Koisaburô I dies.

January 1812: Shinshichi's rank in the Kamigata hyôbanki, tachiyaku section, is jô-jô-(shiro)kichi (superior - superior - (white) excellent).

November 1814: Shinshichi plays at the Kita-Horie Ichigawa no Shibai (Ôsaka) the role of Kawagoe Tarô in the drama "Yoshitsune Sembon Zakura".

August 1815: Shinshichi plays at the Naka no Shibai the roles of Sakuramaru and Terukuni in the drama "Sugawara Denju Tenarai Kagami"; the roles of Matsuômaru and Umeômaru are played by Ôtani Tomoemon II and Nakayama Bunshichi III.

18 June 1818: Shinshichi dies.

Comments:

Onoe Shinshichi II was a Kamigata tachiyaku, who followed in the footsteps of his master the great Onoe Koisaburô I. His fields of excellence were budôgoto and yatsushigoto roles. He was also able to play some female roles.
