Career:

Before 1843: he does his training in Ôsaka, as a disciple of Ichikawa Tôshô. He performs under the name of Ichikawa Morisaburô in Ôsaka in miyaji shibai or hama shibai.

September 1843: Morisaburô goes to Edo and performs at the Ichimuraza as a wakaonnagata.

November 1844: Ichikawa Morisaburô takes the name of Ichikawa Dannosuke V at the Ichimuraza, playing the roles of Naniwazu and Komeya Oyone in the drama "Azuma no Hana Sôma no Dairi".

December 1862: Dannosuke goes back to Ôsaka.

January 1863: Dannosuke plays at the Kado no Shibai the role of Fujinami in the drama "Keisei Sôshinji".

January 1864: Dannosuke's rank in the Kamigata hyôbanki, wakaonnagata section, is jô-jô-kichi (superior - superior - excellent).

November 1864: Dannosuke dies while performing in Kyôto at the Kitagawa no Shibai.

Comments:

Ichikawa Dannosuke V was a talented 19th century Ôsaka actor, who was specialized in female roles. He spent almost 20 seasons in Edo, where he became quite popular. He went back to his native Kamigata at the end of his career and reached there the prestigious jô-jô-kichi rank. He excelled in nyôbô or toshima roles.
