Career:

1820~1858: he starts his career at an unknown date as a disciple of the star Ichikawa Danjûrô VII. He successively performs under the names of Ichikawa Danko III, Ichikawa Dangorô, Ichikawa Umizô, Ichikawa Kaien, Ichikawa Enzaburô I and Ichikawa Hinasuke.

February 1858: Ichikawa Hinasuke takes the name of Ichikawa Sumizô IV at the Nakamuraza, playing in the drama "Date Moyô Somete Kisaragi".

January 1859: Ichikawa Sumizô IV takes the name of Ichikawa Raizô V at the Nakamuraza, playing the role of Uesugi Unai in the drama "Hatsudôchû Sugoroku Soga" (this production is also the shûmei of Sawamura Tanosuke III).

February 1861: Raizô appears on stage for the last time, at the Nakamuraza, playing in the drama "Okuni no Matsu Soga Nakamura".

7 May 1866: Raizô dies in Edo.

Comments:

Ichikawa Raizô V was a supporting tachiyaku and katakiyaku actor. He was often ill in his latter years and had to retire at the beginning of his 40s.
