Matsushima Sakuya I
 

The actor Matsushima Han'ya II held the name of Matsushima Sakuya I before the 12th lunar month of 1686.

Dates of birth and death unknown. Was he a disciple of Matsushima Hyôtarô? [1] He was recorded as performing as a wakashugata in the 11th lunar month of 1717 in Ôsaka at the Naka no Shibai in the kaomise drama "Inari Yashiki Daikoku Bashira", which was produced by Sawamura Chôjûrô I. He became wakaonnagata in the 11th lunar month of 1722 and performed at the Kado no Shibai in the kaomise drama "Shingoten Aioi no Komatsu", which was produced by Arashi San'emon III. He played in the 1st lunar month of 1724 at the Naka no Shibai the role of Princess Man'yo in the drama "Ôtô-no-Miya Asahi no Yoroi", which was produced by Matsushima Hyôtarô. No record afterwards.

The actor Matsushima Han'ya IV held the name of Matsushima Sakuya III from the 11th lunar month of 1725 to the 10th lunar month of 1728.

Dates of birth and death unknown. He was maybe a disciple of Matsushima Moheiji [1]. Trained in Ôsaka as a wakashugata, he settled in Kyôto and performed in the 11th lunar month of 1729 at Kameya Kumenojô's theater in the kaomise drama "Fukuju Yakata Wagô no Futabashira", which was produced by Sakakiyama Shirotarô I. His rank in the 1730 Kyôto hyôbanki, wakashugata section, was jô-(shiro)jô (superior - (white) superior) [visual]. No record afterwards.

 

Notes

[1] We did not find any proof to support this assumption but we know that the so-called master and the so-called disciple performed together in the same theater at the beginning of the career of the so-called disciple.
