Career:

1670: he starts his career in Edo, performing under the name of Saigoku Tôgorô.

Beginning of the 1680s: he takes the name of Saigoku Hyôgorô I.

July 1694: Hyôgorô joins the troupe led by Ichimura Takenojô II, which is invited to perform at the mansion of the daimyô Matsudaira Yamato-no-Kami.

January 1695: Hyôgorô moves from the Ichimuraza to the Moritaza. His rank in the Edo hyôbanki, dôkegata section, is jô-jô-kichi (superior - superior - excellent).

November 1697: Hyôgorô plays at the Moritaza in the drama "Shitennô Yome Kagami".

1699: Hyôgorô joins the Yamamuraza.

June 1699: Hyôgorô plays at the Yamamuraza the role of Sokohira Sukedayû in the drama "Isshin Onna Narukami".

July 1700: Hyôgorô plays at the Yamamuraza the role of Sôma no Tarô in the drama "Tsuya Kanmuri Onna Masakado".

1701: Hyôgorô temporarily moves from the Yamamuraza to the Ichimuraza.

November 1701: Hyôgorô is back at the Yamamuraza.

March 1705: Hyôgorô appears on stage for the last time, in Edo at the Yamamuraza, playing the role of Kuwada Tôji in the drama "Keisei Yoshinagazome".

9 December 1705: Hyôgorô dies in Edo.

Saigoku Hyôgorô I was a popular and talented dôkegata actor, who was active in Edo from the end of the Kanbun era to the first years of the Hôei era.
