Dates of birth and death unknown. Disciple of Sawamura Sôjûrô II, his first stage name was Sawamura Tsuruzô. He took the name of Sawamura Utagawa after the death of his master in 1770. This wakaonnagata actor finally took the name of Sawamura Harugorô II in the 11th lunar month of 1787 at the Moritaza, where he performed in the kaomise drama "Tsuranaru Edamure Takamatsu", which also celebrated the shûmei of both Sawamura Kameemon and Iwai Kiyotarô II. He switched to male roles in 1792 and appeared on ôshibai stage for the last time in the 3rd lunar month of 1793, in Edo at the Nakamuraza. We don't know what has happened to him afterwards for he disappeared from the records.
