The founder of the line Onoe Kikugorô I held this name from the 11th lunar month of 1730 to the 12th lunar month of 1783.

Born in Kyôto in 1769. His first name was Kanesuke. He was the son of Onoe Kikugorô I and he made his first stage appearance in 1st lunar month of 1776 in Kyôto, receiving the name of Onoe Ushinosuke I. He went with his father to Edo in Fall 1778 and achieved a great success at the Ichimuraza in the 11th lunar month of 1778, playing the role of a uirô peddler in Masuyama Kinpachi I's kaomise drama "Sakimasuya Ume no Kachidoki". He took the name of Onoe Kikugorô II in the 11th lunar month of 1785 in Ôsaka, producing at the Kado no Shibai the kaomise drama "Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura". He went on tour in Summer 1787 but suddenly died on a boat the 12th day of the 7th lunar month of 1787 [1] [2]. He was a wakaonnagata actor and was nicknamed Kobaikô, "the Little Baikô".

The star Ôkawa Hashizô I held the name of Onoe Kikugorô III from the 11th lunar month of 1815 to the 3rd lunar month of 1848.

[2] According to others sources, he could have died either the 11th day of the 7th lunar month of 1787 or the 18th day of the 8th lunar month of 1787.
