Career:

11th lunar month of 1696: first record; Motome performed as a wakashugata in Kyôto in the drama "Fukujumaru", which was produced by Yamashita Hanzaemon I; his others stage partners are Yoshizawa Ayame I, Kokan Tarôji I, Onogawa Ugenji and Takeshima Kôzaemon I. His first stage name was Yoshikawa Motome.

1st lunar month of 1699: Motome played in Kyôto at the Nawate no Shibai the role of the sevant Shimezô in the new year drama "Keisei Hana Ikada", which was produced by Yamashita Hanzaemon I.

1st lunar month of 1699: Motome played in the same theater the role of the page Senjûrô in the drama "Nagoya Sanza".

11th lunar month of 1699: he took the name of Yoshioka Motome and played in Kyôto at Kameya Kumenojô's theater the role of Kichijônosuke in the kaomise drama "Kyô Hinagata", which was produced by Yamashita Hanzaemon I.

Fall 1702: Motome went to Ôsaka.

1st lunar month of 1703: Motome played in Ôsaka the role of Sukune Kanemichi in the drama "Ôtomo no Matori", which was produced by Kataoka Nizaemon I.

3rd lunar month of 1703: Motome's rank in the Ôsaka hyôbanki, wakashugata section, was (superior) [visual].

Fall 1706: Motome went to Edo with Fujimura Handayû II.

11th lunar month of 1706: Motome played at the Nakamuraza the role of Nakatsuna in the kaomise drama "Uji Genji Yumihari-zuki".

3rd lunar month of 1707: Motome's rank in the Edo hyôbanki, wakashugata section, was jô-jô-kichi (superior - superior - excellent) [visual].

11th lunar month of 1707: Motome played at the Nakamuraza the role of Yoshiakira in the kaomise drama "Suô no Naishi Azuma Nishiki", which welcomed in Edo the actor Arashi Kiyosaburô I.

1st and 2nd lunar month of 1708: Motome's rank in two Edo hyôbanki, wakashugata section, was jô-jô-kichi (superior - superior - excellent) [visual].

Fall 1708: Motome went back to Kyôto.

12th lunar month of 1708: Motome played in Kyôto in Hoteiya Umenojô's theater the role of Tokiwagi Ôenosuke in the kaomise drama "Umemaru Ôshimadai", which was produced by Sakakiyama Shirotarô I.

1st lunar month of 1709: Motome played in the same theater the role of Ageya Gonjûrô in the new year ni-no-kawari drama "Keisei Yata no Kagami".

3rd lunar month of 1709: Motome's rank in the Kyôto hyôbanki, wakashugata section, was jô-jô-kichi (superior - superior - excellent) [visual].

7th lunar month of 1710: Motome performed in the same theater in the drama "Taiheiki Sazare Ishi".

8th lunar month of 1710: Motome performed in the same theater in the drama "Sazare Ishi Taiheiki". No record afterwards.

Comments:

The Kyôto actor Yoshioka Motome II made a short but successful wakashugata career not only in his native city but also in Ôsaka and Edo, from the second half of the 1690s to the beginning of the 1710s. His kôseki was said to be outstanding and he excelled in budôgoto.
