Nakamura Genzaemon I

Dates of birth and death unknown. Disciple of Nakamura Sen'ya I, he received the name of Nakamura Genzaemon I and performed as a katakiyaku in Kamigata in tabi shibai or in Ôsaka in hama shibai. He performed as an oyajigata in the 11th lunar month of 1719 in Ôsaka at the Naka no Shibai in the kaomise drama "Onna Daimyô Iroha Obi", which was produced by Takeshima Kôzaemon II. He performed as a katakiyaku in the 11th lunar month of 1721 at the Naka no Shibai in the kaomise drama "Onna Genji Musha Sugoroku", which was produced by Takeshima Kôzaemon II. He became tachiyaku and performed in the same theater in the kaomise drama "Odori Hotei". He switched back to katakiyaku the following season, performing in the 11th lunar month of 1723 at the Ônishi no Shibai in the kaomise drama "Fukujukai Kogane no Minato", which was produced by Sakakiyama Shirotarô I. He became tôdori in 1732. He played in the 11th lunar month of 1733 in Ôsaka at the Kita-Shinchi no Shibai the role of Ômori Hikoshichi in the kaomise drama "Funa Zukuri Mannen Goyomi", produced at the Kita-Shinchi no Shibai by Kirinoya Tôkurô. His rank in the 1733 Ôsaka hyôbanki, katakiyaku section, was (superior) [visual]. He stopped acting and became a sakusha. His pen name was Takagi Richû. He worked in the 11th lunar month of 1748 at the Naka no Shibai, along with Izumiya Shôzô on the kaomise drama "Fuyugomori Tsumagoi Ikusa", which was produced by Bandô Toyosaburô I. He was active in Ôsaka up to 1758. He was the adoptive father of Nakamura Genjûrô, the future master of Nakamura Utaemon I.
