Career:

1805: born in Edo.

11th lunar month of 1808: he made his first stage appearance at the Ichimuraza, performing in the kaomise drama "Irosoyuru Nidai Genji" which welcomed in Edo the Kamigata actor Sawamura Tanosuke II and celebrated the shûmei of Nakamura Rikô II.

6th lunar month of 1809: premiere at the Moritaza of Katsu Hyôzô I's drama "Okuni Gozen Keshô no Sugatami"; Asajirô played the role of Sasaki Toyowakamaru [casting].

11th lunar month of 1809: great shûmei at the Ichimuraza for the Otowaya guild; Onoe Matsusuke I, Onoe Eizaburô I and Onoe Asajirô respectively took the names of Onoe Shôroku I, Onoe Matsusuke II and Onoe Eizaburô II, performing in Tsuruya Nanboku IV's kaomise drama "Misao no Hana Toba no Koizuka".

11th lunar month of 1814: Onoe Matsusuke II and Onoe Eizaburô II respectively took the names of Onoe Baikô III and Onoe Matsusuke III at the Nakamuraza, performing together in the kaomise drama "Ninin Muko Mikurai Sadame".

7th lunar month of 1821: premiere at the Kawarasakiza of Tsuruya Nanboku IV's drama "Tamamo-no-Mae Kumoi no Hareginu", which mixes the sekai of Gion no Nyôgo, the Two Shinbê ("Ninin Shinbê") and Tamamo-no-Mae; Matsusuke played the role of the ueki-uri Terashima no Matsu [more details].

9th lunar month of 1821: premiere at the Kawarasakiza of Tsuruya Nanboku IV's drama "Kiku no En Tsuki no Shiranami"; Matsusuke played the role of Ishidô Kazumanosuke [more details].

11th lunar month of 1821: Onoe Matsusuke III took the name of Onoe Sanchô at the Kawarasakiza, performing in Tsuruya Nanboku IV's kaomise drama "Imoseyama Hitome Senbon", which mixed the "Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura" and "Imoseyama Onna Teikin" worlds [casting].

1st lunar month of 1823: premiere at the Ichimuraza of Tsuruya Nanboku IV's new year sogamono drama "Yaegasumi Soga no Kumiito"; Sanchô played the role of Soga no Zenjibô [casting].

7th lunar month of 1823: premiere at the Ichimuraza of Tsuruya Nanboku IV's natsu kyôgen "Torimazete Sekison Miyage"; Sanchô played the roles of Princess Yayoi and Hanesawaya Kôkichi [casting].

1st lunar month of 1825: premiere at the Nakamuraza of Tsuruya Nanboku IV's new year sogamono drama "Okuni-iri Soga Nakamura"; Matsusuke played the roles of Soga no Zenjibô and Futabaya Senkichi [casting].

7th lunar month of 1825: Matsusuke played at the Nakamuraza the role of Ôboshi Rikiya in the drama "Kanadehon Chûshingura".

7th lunar month of 1825: premiere at the Nakamuraza of Tsuruya Nanboku IV's ghost play "Tôkaidô Yotsuya Kaidan"; Matsusuke played the role of Okuda Shôzaburô [casting].

6th lunar month of 1827: premiere at the Kawarasakiza of Tsuruya Nanboku IV's drama "Hitori Tabi Gojûsan Tsugi"; Matsusuke played the roles of Ishii Hanjirô, Omatsu's sister Osode and the taiko mochi Kisaku [casting].

4th lunar month of 1848: Onoe Kikugorô III and Onoe Matsusuke III respectively took the names of Ôkawa Hashizô I and Ôkawa Sanchô in Nagoya.

8th lunar month of 1848: he settled in Ôsaka with his father.

24th day of the 4th lunar month of 1849 [2]: his father Ôkawa Hashizô I died on the way back to Edo.

1850: Ôkawa Sanchô took back the name of Onoe Matsusuke III.

5th lunar month of 1851: Matsusuke played at the Kawarasakiza the role of Kobotoke Kohei in the drama "Tôkaidô Yotsuya Kaidan", which commemorated the 2nd anniversary (3rd memorial service) of the death of Onoe Kikugorô III.

2nd day of the 7th lunar month of 1851 [1]: Matsusuke died in Edo.

Comments:

Onoe Matsusuke III was a tachiyaku, who was the son of a Kabuki giant but made an average career in the first half of the nineteenth century.
