Dates of birth and death unknown. Son of Matsumoto Shirosaburô and younger brother of Ichikawa Danzô I, he made his training in miyaji shibai, performing under the name of Ichikawa Hyakumatsu. He became tachiyaku and took the name of Ichikawa Danzaburô I in the 11th lunar month of 1711 at the Moritaza, playing in the kaomise drama "Kôbai no Momoyoguruma", which welcomed in Edo the actors Sakakiyama Sukegorô, Osagawa Tatsuya and Sawamura Jûrôzaemon. He appeared on stage for the last time in the 2nd lunar month of 1713 at the Moritaza, where he played in the drama "Isshin Oyako Zakura". |

He became a disciple of Ichikawa Kuzô III and took the name of Ichikawa Danzaburô IX in January 1880 [1] at the Hisamatsuza. He was active up to his death the 18th of February 1926.
