25 January 1923: born in Asakusa.

September 1970: first Kabuki adaptation at the Imperial Theater of one story from the series of novels "Onihei Hankachô"; the role of Hasegawa Heizô was played by Matsumoto Kôshirô VIII.

February 1975: premiere at the Kabukiza of Ikenami Shôtarô's drama "Debauchi Otama" [more details].

February 1977: premiere at the Kabukiza of Ikenami Shôtarô's drama "Ichimatsu Kozô no Onna" [more details].

February 1978: premiere at the Kabukiza of Ikenami Shôtarô's drama "Aibiki no Onna" [more details].

February 1990: Kabuki adaptation at the Imperial Theater of one story from the series of novels "Onihei Hankachô"; the role of Hasegawa Heizô was played by Nakamura Kichiemon II.

3 May 1990: Ikenami Shôtarô died.

Ikenami Shôtarô was a 20th century writer, who wrote many historical novels. One of his most famous series of novels, "Onihei Hankachô", was adapted not only for TV and cinema but also for Kabuki. He also wrote for Onoe Baikô VII a series of 3 Kabuki dramas entitled Edo Onna Sôshi.
