Connection: Master: Tamagawa Sennojô I Disciples: Tamagawa Sennojô IV, Tamagawa Handayû I, Tamagawa Kindayû, Tamagawa Jûzaburô, Tamagawa Genzaburô, Tamagawa Kozatsuma Career: 8th lunar month of 1674: Sennosuke's name appears for the first time in a theater hyôbanki. 11th lunar month of 1675: Sennosuke's name appears for the first time in a theater playbill, in Edo at the Nakamuraza; he is listed in the Edo Kodomo (Edo's children) section, along with Nakamura Shichisaburô I and Matsumoto Kanzaburô; two new children-actors are also listed, Sakakibara Heiemon and Kamakura Chôkurô I. 1676 ~ 1678: Tamagawa Sennosuke takes the name of Tamagawa Sennojô III. 1678: Sennojô plays at the Ichimuraza in the drama "Takiguchi no Yokobue". 1680: Sennojô is the first actor to wear a black headgear; it quickly becomes the latest fashion in Edo. 1681: Sennojô achieves a great success at the Ichimuraza by performing in the dance "Kifune". 1st lunar month of 1686: Sennojô plays at the Nakamuraza the role of Senju in the new year drama "Wankyû Ukiyo Jikkai"; his stage partners are Nakamura Shichisaburô I (Ôtomo Minbu), Nakamura Denkurô I (Kumahara Wadanosuke), Mikuni Hikosaku II (Wan'ya Kyûbê), Dekishima Kichiya (Hatsue-no-Mae), Uemura Kokichiya (Kiriyama), Hanai Saizaburô I (Sôhachi), Fujita Minanosuke (Sôhachi's wife), Tamai Gonpachi (Kichibei) and Hanamura Kinue (the courtesan Matsuyama). 1687: Sennojô performs at the Yamamuraza in the dance "Senjin Odori". Comments: Tamagawa Sennojô III was an important Edo onnagata actor, who was active from the middle of the 1670s to the beginning of the 1690s.
