Dates of birth and death unknown. Disciple of Ichikawa Danjûrô V, his first stage name was Ichikawa Tatsuzô. He was recorded for the first time in the 1773 Edo hyôbanki in the koyaku section. He became tachiyaku and took the name of Hanai Saizaburô IV in the 11th lunar month of 1797, performing at the Nakamuraza in the kaomise drama "Kaikei Kokyô no Nishikigi". He was active in Edo up to 1820.
