Ichikawa Sukejûrô VI
Ichikawa Sukejûrô VI  In Japanese | Ichikawa Morinosuke IV  In Japanese

Dates of birth and death unknown. Most likely a disciple or (adopted) son of Ichikawa Sukejûrô V. He received the name of Ichikawa Morinosuke IV [*] in the 1st lunar month of 1872 and he took the name of Ichikawa Sukejûrô VI in January 1884. This minor actor was active in Kamigata up to 1913.

[*] In the latest edition (2012) of "Kabuki Haiyû Meiseki Benran", the actors Ichikawa Sukejûrô V and Ichikawa Sukejûrô VI were recorded as being Ichikawa Morinosuke II and Ichikawa Morinosuke III, not Ichikawa Morinosuke III and Ichikawa Morinosuke IV. The origin of the issue lies with the actor Ichikawa Danzô V: for the "Kabuki Haiyû Meiseki Benran", he never held the name of Ichikawa Morinosuke I. We've decided to stay in line with the Ritsumeikan University Actors Database or Nojima Jusaburô's book "Kabuki Jinmei Jiten" and acknowledge that the first holder of the line was indeed Ichikawa Danzô V and the second was Ichikawa Tôshô. As a consequence, we had to change the line numbers of the third and fourth holders of the name of Ichikawa Morinosuke. The issue is an open field for discussion!
