Onoe Shôkaku I

Born in 1832. Grandson of Ichikawa Ebijûrô I, son of Onoe Tamizô II and elder brother of Onoe Ichizô, his first stage name was Onoe Shôkô. He took the name of Onoe Waichi II in Kamigata at unknown times. Waichi and his younger brother Ichikawa Ichizô III went together to Edo in Winter 1857. He went back to Kamigata and took the name of Onoe Shôkaku I in the 11th lunar month of 1861 in Kyôto at the Minamigawa no Shibai, playing the role of Nagao Kagekatsu in the classic "Honchô Nijûshikô". This tachiyaku actor was active in Kamigata up to his death the 22nd of October 1878. His haimyô was Baichô.

The actor Onoe Matsusuke VI held the name of Onoe Shôkaku II from May 1971 to April 1990.
